The Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 in Game 7 Saturday night to advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In doing so, the two-time defending champion Lightning keep their three-peat hopes alive.
Tampa Bay overcame a 3-2 series deficit — and won in overtime in Game 6 — to take down Toronto.
So, that’s the winning side of things.
As for the losing side, well, this is unfortunately more of the same for the Maple Leafs and their fans- who know heartbreak all too well.
The Maple Leafs last won a playoff series in 2004, so that drought officially reaches 18 years. And they last won a Stanley Cup in 1967, so that drought reaches 55 years.
It’s also the sixth straight year that the Maple Leafs made the postseason and got knocked out in the first round.
