Three-time Stanley Cup Champion Patrick Kane is on the move.
The Chicago Blackhawks dealt their longtime star winger to the New York Rangers in a massive deal on Tuesday. The trade, expected by many, is expected to be made official after a trade call later in the day.
Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff tweeted the news. “Breaking: It’s Showtime. Sources tell @DailyFaceoff: #NYR expected to acquire Patrick Kane for 2023 2nd Rd Pick (can become a 1st) and a 4th Rd Pick. #NYR and #Blackhawks plan to conduct 3-team trade call tonight,” Seravalli tweeted.
Seravalli also speculated that it was “possible” that Patrick Kane would make his Rangers debut on Wednesday against the Philadelphia Flyers.
A third team will reportedly be involved
Kane had spent his entire career with the Blackhawks, dating back to when the team drafted him. Over that time, he became one of the best players in the franchise’s history. With Kane, the team won three Stanley Cups. He was, in part, responsible for winning their first Stanley Cup since 1961 in 2010 when he scored the game-winning goal in Game 6 of the Final against the aforementioned Flyers. He went on to win two more Cups in 2013 and 2015.
The Rangers hope Kane gives them a scoring edge and significant postseason experience. They are bound to make the playoffs again, currently sitting in third place in the Metropolitan Division behind the Carolina Hurricanes and rival New Jersey Devils.
The NHL world reacted to the major trade on Tuesday.
