Considering all of the fun and interesting stories that have emerged from the first three games of the Stanley Cup Final between the Penguins and Predators, it feels a bit silly to cover a story about a player’s breath. And yet, here we are.
Following Nashville’s big Game 3 win, P.K. Subban was interviewed about his final confrontation with Sidney Crosby. Pierre McGuire asked what the two talked about and Subban gave a pretty unexpected answer – his bad breath.
In summary, the two exchanged words at the end of the game and Crosby apparently said Subban has some bad breath. Subban said he used some Listerine prior to the game, so he’s not sure he believes Crosby’s assessment. Who do we believe here?
This story is silly and that’s partially what makes Subban so fun to follow. Another player being interviewed by McGuire after the game would have given a more vanilla, plain answer while Subban was blunt and open about what’s being talked about on the ice. Subban’s open personality is one of his most endearing qualities (unless you’re Mike Milbury) and that makes following him and his team so interesting.
The action on the ice has been pretty awesome in this year’s Final, but the stories off of the ice including all of the catfish, crowds and quotes have made this a special series.
