The Washington Capitals finally won their first Stanley Cup in franchise history with a 4-3 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday night. It was also the first championship for veteran winger T.J. Oshie.
Oshie’s father, Tim, was in attendance at T-Mobile Arena for the title-clinching victory. Tim was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2012.
T.J. was understandably very emotional when he talked with NBCSN’s Jeremy Roenick after the game about what Thursday night meant for him and his father.
“My dad, he doesn’t remember a lot of stuff these days. He remembers enough. But I’ll tell you what, this one will stick with him forever. You can guarantee that.”
And T.J. told CBC that “you can bet your ass” his dad will remember this night.
