The New York Jets drafted rookie quarterback Zach Wilson as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. While he initially emerged as the team’s starting quarterback, it didn’t take long for the team to bench him in favor of current starter Mike White this year.
But even though he was benched, head coach Robert Saleh seems to think that Zach Wilson could still have a strong future ahead of him, according to Jets reporter Rich Cimini of ESPN.
“Saleh on Wilson: ‘Kid is going to be a good QB,’ saying people in ‘this instant-coffee world’ want to see immediate results. #Jets,” Cimini said on Twitter.
The quote from Robert Saleh has since gone viral and has gotten a lot of attention on social media. The NFL world had plenty to say about the comments with most blasting the Jets’ head coach for his bizarre comments and believing it’s fair to expect immediate results from the No. 2 overall pick at quarterback.
Everyone has to realize that Saleh agrees with your Zach criticism and does not actually believe these statements he makes. If he really were this high on Zach he wouldn't bench him at 5-2 midway through his 2nd year. He just does a great job of publicly backing his guys. https://t.co/fyoKwuEcIS

“Saleh with that instant coffee thing again. I was shocked how many people told me they still drink instant coffee last time he used that analogy,” Reporter Ken LaVicka said on Twitter.

“Before he lost favor the Jets coaching staff were raving about Zach and calling him a special player. This is the diplomatic response. I imagine they’re probably checked out on him as the franchise guy,” Jets fan m white shyamalan said on Twitter.
Regardless of what fans think of Zach Wilson, it looks like there’s a good chance he starts once again on Thursday night as Mike White is expected to be sidelined again.
