Ideally, an NFL bye week should allow players time to rest, relax and heal from lingering injuries so that they can return fully focused and healthy for the rest of the NFL season. But unfortunately for the New York Giants, one of their key players made a very dangerous and costly decision that will cost his team.
On Monday morning, Giants star safety Xavier McKinney announced that he traveled to Cabo in Mexico over the team’s bye week where he was injured in an ATV accident. According to McKinney, the injury will keep him sidelined for “a few weeks.”

“During our bye week, I went away to Cabo. While there, I joined a group for a guided sight-seeing tour on ATVs. Unfortunately, I had an accident and injured my hand,” Xavier McKinney said in a statement on Twitter. “The injury will keep me sidelined for a few weeks. I will do everything I can to get back as quickly as possible so I can contribute to what we’re building here in NY.”
While some appreciated McKinney’s honesty, many in the NFL world are questioning his decision-making to travel or ride an ATV during the off week, calling it a “bruh moment.”
Until this injury, McKinney actually had the NFL’s longest active streak without missing a single game. Obviously, he will no longer hold that title.
