The Dallas Cowboys are in Cleveland playing the Browns today, and to add a little excitement to what is otherwise a fairly unremarkable game, Cowboys wide receiver Cole Beasley gave us at home a potential controversy to sink our teeth into.
Beasley caught a six-yard touchdown shortly before halftime to put Dallas up 21-3, then appeared to mock LeBron James’ famous pregame ritual during his touchdown celebration.
For a quick reminder, here is James’ pregame routine.
One could construe Beasley’s routine to be a pantomime of pouring baby powder in the hand before dumping it onto the ground as a sign of disrespect. But, it goes a little deeper than that. This is actually his regular touchdown routine. This is him in October following a score against the Packers.
Beasley spoke to SportsDay about the celebration, to which he clarified the intent of his celebration.
“It’s just the sauce, man,” Beasley said. “Pour the sauce on my hand and put it on the shoes. Saucy feet, man.”
“It’s just something I kind of started saying, you ‘give a guy the sauce,'” Beasley said. “That kind of stuck, so I just stuck with it. It’s part of just having fun and playing.”
Is this a long, elaborate plot to covertly clown King James? Or is Beasley just a firm believer in the power of the sauce?
I’d assume its the latter, after all, mocking James is never a good business decision… unless you’re Skip Bayless.
