Cam Ward receives his jersey from former NFL player Warren Moon during a press conference at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park in Nashville, Tenn., Friday, April 25, 2025. The Titans selected quarterback Cam Ward from Miami with the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Tennessee Titans opted to give the keys to the kingdom to former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward, selecting him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. And on Friday, one former Titans legend opted to give up a great honor in an attempt to further make Ward the cornerstone piece of the organization.

Ward sat down the reporters on Friday for his first press conference as a member of the Tennessee Titans. But surprisingly, he was greeted by former Warren Moon, perhaps the greatest player to ever represent the organization when they were formerly the Houston Oilers.

Moon came with a No. 1 jersey in hand, the jersey number he made famous over the course of his Hall of Fame career. And in a video posted by the Titans, Moon officially announced that the jersey number would be unretired so that Ward, who has worn the No. 1 jersey throughout the entirety of his collegiate career, can wear the number at the NFL level.

One could argue that Ward wearing the No. 1 jersey at the NFL level may present some added pressure to live up to the greatness that Moon showed off in the jersey in the past.

But clearly, Ward has shown throughout his collegiate career that pressure isn’t something that he is overly affected by, shining in his final year at Miami this past season by throwing for 4,313 passing yards and 39 passing touchdowns.

Turning around the Titans organization may not be something that happens overnight just because Ward is in town. But clearly, the Titans organization is fully sold on Ward one day brining the organization back to their winning ways back when Warren Moon was in town.
