The NFL has seen arguably its two craziest finishes of the 2015 season just four nights apart from one another. After the Ravens’ walk-off blocked field goal for a touchdown ended Week 12, the Packers were able to defeat the Lions 27-23 on a last second Hail Mary.
For Detroit, the loss was equally as dubious as it was for Cleveland. (Go figure given their NFL histories, right?)
The Lions played a significant role in allowing Green Bay to have an opportunity to pull a miracle victory from out of nowhere. First, they blew a 20-0 second half lead. Second, they had the game won but a facemask penalty (which may or may not have been aided by a questionable call) led to one untimed down and one last chance for the Packers. Aaron Rodgers took full advantage as he used every ounce of his arm strength and found his namesake Richard Rodgers for the 61 yard Hail Mary connection.
While the biggest impact of Monday Night’s Browns-Ravens game was on the 2016 NFL Draft order, this one actually had playoff implications. The Lions’ sudden winning streak and faint Wild Card hopes came to a crashing halt as they fell to 4-8 while the Packers got a much needed victory to move to 8-4 on the season. Let’s have Calvin Johnson sum it up for us…
Sorry, Lions fans.
