Tuohy family makes huge move in ‘Blind Side’ controversy

The Tuohy family said it is ending the conservatorship it has over Michael Oher.

The former NFL star’s relationship with the family inspired a book and the hit 2009 movie The Blind Side, but Oher has sued Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, claiming they never actually adopted him but instead tricked him by obtaining legal authority over his financial affairs.

Oher, 37, alleges the Oscar-nominated film has earned the family millions, while he claims to have received nothing.

The New York Post reported that the Tuohys’ attorney announced Wednesday the couple will enter into a consent order to end the conservatorship. Oher’s suit is seeking an end to that, along with an accounting of all revenues the couple has made from his name and story.

Earlier this week, Sean Tuohy responded to Oher’s claims, saying the conservatorship was a way the offensive lineman could meet NCAA guidelines to attend Ole Miss. He said the family was very concerned about the appearance of impropriety.

“We were so concerned it was on the up-and-up that we made sure the biological mother came to court,” Tuohy said.

“No question, the allegations are insulting, but, look, it’s a crazy world. You’ve got to live in it. It’s obviously upset everybody.”

Meanwhile, the actor who portrayed Oher in the movie, Quinton Aaron, has been speaking out on the situation. He said, “Having met both parties, you know, obviously, my heart breaks for the situation.” He also rejected the calls by some critics who say Sandra Bullock, who portrayed Leigh Anne Tuohy, should return the Best Actress Oscar she won for the role.
