Much has been made about the very public standoff between the Cincinnati Bengals and star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson, who had a career year in 2024, leading the NFL in sacks.

Despite his dominant play on the field, Hendrickson and the Bengals have not been able to come to an agreement on an extension to keep him in Cincinnati long-term. Now, one prominent league insider is reporting on Hendrickson’s side of things.

“EXCLUSIVE: Just spoke to Bengals pass rusher Trey Hendrickson, who is currently in Jacksonville, FL. For the last 30 days, he had been at his home in Cincinnati and training. But as training camp approached, he and his wife decided to leave.

“They received two offers in a 24-hour span, none containing the guarantees past the first year he was looking for. Hendrickson didn’t want to hear the practice whistles while being a distraction to his teammates, so he and his wife Alisa decided to pack up and head to Florida. Down in Jacksonville, Hendrickson continues to train, hoping that a deal can be worked out,” reported The Athletic’s Diana Russini.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“Let him sit. If he should be angry,… it should be at his AGENT. His Agent negotiated an extra year into his deal 3 years ago so he could get more money. Now it’s not good enough,……. it’s business. Play for what you agreed to,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“He has a contract he should honor that,” someone else added.

“Bengals are pathetic, trying to screw trey & their 1st round pick, smh,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Bengals and Hendrickson can reach an agreement before the regular season arrives.
