While ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported in January that 36-year-old Jason Kelce confided his retirement to teammates after the Philadelphia Eagles loss on Wild Card Weekend, the All-Pro center has yet to officially confirm his future plans, which leaves the door open for the 36-year-old to return for another season.
At the Super Bowl LVIII opening night in Las Vegas, 11-year-old reporter Jeremiah Fennell posed a question to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Interviewing for NFL Network, Fennell inquired whether Jason Kelce’s reported but unconfirmed retirement had spurred Travis to ponder his football future.
That’s when Travis revealed that a decision had not yet been made, and it’s not out of the realm of possibility that the six-time All-Pro and future Hall of Famer could return for another season with the Eagles.
“I’ll tell you what, I think it’s still up in the air whether or not he’s gonna continue to play football,” Travis said regarding his older brother’s rumored retirement. “I love coming into the building and playing this game more than anybody, man, and I know I’m gonna miss it when it’s over with. I can’t put a timestamp on it, but I know that I’m gonna enjoy every single bit of this one.”
Travis’ comments align with what Jason reportedly told fans at the Pro Bowl in Orlando when fans inquired that the Eagles offensive lineman not to hang up his cleats just yet.
As for Travis, as he contemplates his own future, his words echo the uncertainty surrounding his brother. And despite those initial reports, Jason’s silence keeps the Eagles faithful clinging to hope.
Will he answer the call for one more season, or will he prioritize family and embark on a new chapter? The answer lies within the enigmatic center himself.
