Tony Pollard went down early in the NFC Divisional Round and many feared the worse. The Dallas Cowboys running back sustained a painful ankle injury that sidelined him for the rest of the game. As the Cowboys emerge from the low point of their 19-12 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers, they’ve received horrible injury news about Pollard.
Pollard fractured his left fibula and will need surgery to fix it. The terrible injury news was reported by ESPN Cowboys reporter Todd Archer. Archer tweeted, “Tony Pollard suffered a fractured left fibula that will require surgery, according to multiple sources. Normally those require a three-month recovery. Bad.”
It was particularly bad enough that Pollard’s injury sparked a conversation about a needed rule change. Now Pollard himself has to deal with a serious injury that could be potentially very harmful. The running back is due a new contract after this season, set to likely be his last in a Cowboy uniform.
Now, prospective suitors for the 25-year-old, set to turn 26 this April, are unlikely to get the exciting and exuberant player he’d become. Which is a huge shame.
And on the whole, this has to feel like salt in the wound for Dallas. Pollard’s play had particularly picked up and he figured to be a key contributor in potentially his final playoff run with the team. Now, with the Cowboys eliminated, and Pollard hurt, it’s a sour possible end to his tenure.
Many reacted to the terrible news on Sunday night.

Sad to see this in Pollard's final game before free agency. Did more than enough to prove that he can be a star back for someone in this league – could end up as a bargain this offseason. https://t.co/MC0qmeqJDo
