Coming into Sunday’s game versus the Chicago Bears, the Dallas Cowboys were going to be without starting running back Ezekiel Elliott who was dealing with a knee injury.
You would think it would have made a huge difference, but it didn’t. Backup Tony Pollard ran all over the Bears to the tune of 131 yards (147 total yards) and three touchdowns, to help carry his team to a 49-29 victory.
The Bears had no answer all afternoon for Pollard nor the Cowboys’ offense. If it wasn’t Pollard gashing them on the ground, it was quarterback Dak Prescott in the air, looking like his old self.
A lot of Cowboy fans have known what a great running back Pollard is, in fact, there were even calls for Pollard to take Elliott’s place in the starting lineup, today’s play versus a pretty good Bears defense surely help his cause and the call for more playing time in the future.
Fans and media across the NFL were clearly impressed by Pollard’s three-touchdown day.
Some NFL experts are already calling for Pollard to be the starter and not understanding why he isn’t.
It’s going to be hard to deny Pollard more carries as the season goes along for the Cowboys, which is not a bad thing. The Cowboys have proven that their backups can be just as good as their starters.
