Legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady did not finish his career with the New England Patriots after he retired as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he is no longer technically involved with the team as he recently agreed to become a minority owner of another NFL franchise, the Las Vegas Raiders. But that does not mean he doesn’t still consider himself a Patriot.
This weekend, the New England Patriots honored Tom Brady before their season-opening game against the Philadelphia Eagles, giving the quarterback some special recognition as he steps into retirement after leading the team to six Super Bowl championships. Brady wore his iconic No. 12 Patriots jersey to the game and addressed the crowd at halftime, delivering a pretty clear message to the fans in Foxboro.
“One thing I am sure of, and that will never change, is that I am a Patriot for life,” Brady said during his speech at halftime of the game, according to ESPN.
Naturally, this got quite a reception from the Patriots fans in attendance as the crowd of 65,000-plus began chanting, “Brady! Brady! Brady!” following the message.
Brady will also be given a unique honor by the Patriots next year as team owner Robert Kraft announced that the team would be waiving its standard four-year waiting period and inducting Brady into the team’s Hall of Fame.
