The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the midst of one of their splashiest offseasons in franchise history. Pittsburgh has signed four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers, traded away stars Minkah Fitzpatrick and George Pickens, and traded for stars Jalen Ramsey and DK Metcalf.
However, one major domino has yet to fall for the Steelers: the contract status of star pass rusher T.J. Watt. Now, we have an update on where things stand between Watt and the franchise, and it’s not an encouraging one for Steelers fans.
“Steelers are far apart with TJ Watt with negotiations, per (Adam Schefter),” reported Blitzburgh on Twitter.
Fans reacted to the brutal news on social media.
“I can’t believe I’m saying this, but after thinking it over, we should trade TJ Watt. I heard he wants $40 million a year—too much for a non-QB. Will our defense worsen? Yup. Will we miss his game-changing plays? YUP, but that’s too expensive, even for an ELITE player like him,” one Steelers fan wrote on Twitter.
“I don’t see how TJ has the power. He is coming off his worst ever season. Steelers should just offer the Garrett money or trade him at this point. The guy can’t earn more the Myles,” one fan added.
“Good. We absolutely shouldn’t overpay just because the Browns overpaid Garrett. We don’t need to run our organization based on the piss poor decisions of a different organization,’ another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Watt and the Steelers can come to terms before Week One arrives.
