The Pittsburgh Steelers have been involved in a standoff with star pass rusher T.J. Watt throughout the offseason. Things got so tense between the two sides that many fans and pundits expected the team to seriously consider trading Watt this offseason, as the franchise hasn’t been shy about trading away star players.
Now, all worries have been put to rest, as the Steelers and Watt have agreed to a massive deal
“Sources: The #Steelers and All-Pro edge TJ Watt have agreed to terms on a long-term deal to make him the NFL’s highest-paid defender. He gets a 3-year, $123M blockbuster deal in a contract done by RJ Gonser of (CAA Football),” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Fans reacted to the contract extension on social media.
“That’s enough money to cancel the national debt, but 0 playoff wins TJ is so selfish he won’t donate any of it,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“The best to ever play the game let’s goooooo tj watt Steelers winning Super Bowl,” someone else added.
“If you’re gonna share a locker room, bus, plane, hotel, practice field, weight room, stadium etc with Aaron Rodgers, imma need that type of money,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Watt can live up to the contract, as many feel the pass rusher has begun to decline.
