A disappointing season for the Tennessee Titans led to the hiring of new general manager Ran Carthon earlier this week. He will look to bring the Titans back to the postseason next year, but he is already dealing with some difficult questions about the future of long-time quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
Carthon discussed Tannehill’s future on Friday, detailing that he needs “more time” to evaluate the veteran quarterback along with the rest of the roster.
“I don’t think that’s fair at this point,” Carthon said of Tannehill via Turron Davenport of ESPN. “We’re still evaluating the roster. Ryan has been great here. He’s won a lot of football games. I look forward to us winning football games. But I still need more time to evaluate and make those decisions.”
“This is a quarterback-driven league,” Carthon added. “People are hired and fired every day over that position. I want to spend more time evaluating that position so I will have my own opinion. Then, Mike (Vrabel) and I will confer and we’ll figure it out.”
Ryan Tannehill notably missed six games this season for Tennessee due to injury. At 34 years old, it certainly seems like there are questions regarding his future with the team.
The Titans also notably drafted rookie quarterback Malik Willis in the 2022 NFL Draft, but he struggled mightily in his appearances this season, completing just 50.8 percent of his passes while not throwing for any touchdowns in three starts.
It is unclear at this point if their quarterback of the future is currently on the Titans’ roster, but there will certainly be intriguing options in free agency this offseason if the Titans wanted to go a different direction at quarterback.
