Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow was widely known for his play on the field both at the collegiate level at Florida, but also at the NFL level for numerous teams. He was perhaps even better known for his religious beliefs during his NFL career, and he spoke about how that impacted his NFL career on Monday.
Tebow, a widely known devout Christian, used his NFL platform as an opportunity to openly discuss his religious beliefs with the world. And one could argue that it actually took away from his ability on the field, and therefore impacted his longevity in the NFL.
The former Denver Broncos quarterback discussed whether his beliefs impacted his NFL career with OutKick’s Dan Dakich, where he said that he “wouldn’t change a thing” about his NFL career.
“I don’t know,” said Tebow when asked whether he believes that his outward faith negatively impacted his NFL career. “How could I possibly answer something like that? I don’t have the knowledge to do that. I would just say that what Jesus has done for me is everything.
“My faith hasn’t really cost me anything. What Jesus has done for me is given me everything. It’s given me a real hope. It’s given me a meaning and a purpose. Even in the midst of my shortcomings and failures. I am not defined by my scars, I’m defined by his. I’m just grateful for everything he has done in my life.”
While Tebow’s NFL career didn’t go as well as he may have hoped, it seems like he has plenty of fond memories to look back on and live without too many regrets. And he is still remembered by many as undoubtedly one of the best college quarterbacks of all time.
