Less than two weeks after firing Mike Vrabel, the Tennessee Titans appear to have found their next head coach.
Tennessee is reportedly set to hire Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan as the franchise’s sixth head coach since moving to Tennessee in 1997.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter had the news first.
Callahan was a quarterback at UCLA from 2002-05, then became a graduate assistant for the team before joining the Denver Broncos in 2010 as an offensive assistant, remaining with the team through 2016. After winning Super Bowl 50 with the Broncos, Callahan was hired as the quarterbacks coach of the Detroit Lions where he remained for two seasons before taking the same position with the Oakland Raiders in 2018.
After the 2019 season, he was hired by the Bengals as offensive coordinator, where he’s been instrumental in the development of quarterback Joe Burrow and helped lead the Bengals to back-to-back AFC Championships and an appearance in Super Bowl LVI where the team suffered a 23-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
Bengals running back Joe Mixon also had tremendous success under Callahan, recording three 1,000-yard rushing seasons in Callahan’s time as offensive coordinator including a massive 2021 season that saw Mixon rush for 1,205 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Callahan is the son of former Raiders and Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Bill Callahan.
