The Tennessee Titans likely entered the 2023 NFL Draft expecting to be able to trade up and select their future franchise quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL Draft. But things didn’t work out according to plan.
Heading into draft day, most mock drafts expected the Houston Texans to pass up Ohio State Buckeyes star quarterback C.J. Stroud amid rumors of a low S2 cognitive score. And if that happened, the Titans were prepared to trade up to select Stroud with the No. 3 overall pick, according to NFL insider Albert Breer.
But when the Texans ultimately did select Stroud with the No. 3 overall pick, that plan went out the window.
It’ll be interesting to see what C.J. Stroud does in the AFC South. Once the Ohio State QB came off the board, the Titans dropped out of the bidding for the third pick, which should tell you what you need to know about why Tennessee wanted to move up. And now, the Titans will see Stroud twice a year, playing the team that blocked them from getting him,” Breer wrote in Sports Illustrated.
It’s some brutal news for the Titans as they missed out on the quarterback they wanted in the draft, and the NFL world had plenty to say about it on Twitter.

Obviously, the Titans had to settle for Will Levis in the second round instead.
