The Tennessee Titans selected quarterback Cam Ward with the number one overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. Following Will Levis’ decision to undergo shoulder surgery, Ward is all set to be the starting quarterback for his rookie season.
However, Ward recently revealed that he doesn’t feel welcomed in the league, and that he believes there is a target on his back.
“I don’t care about the hype,” he said, according to The Athletic. “I don’t care about social media. All I care about is this 100-yard field. … At the end of the day, football takes care of everything.
“I don’t think I’m being welcomed in [the league] with open arms,” Ward added. “I was the first pick. I’m blessed to be that. But at the end of the day, there’s a target on my back. There’s a target on everyone’s back in the league, but I’m trying to prove myself to my teammates.”
Fans reacted to Ward’s words on social media.
“Honestly nobodies really thinking about Cam. We all wanna see what Sheduer is going to do ,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Dude is going to have his welcome to the NFL moment in week 1 and it’s not going to be pretty,” another fan predicted.
“There really isn’t. First overall pick that has no media pressure,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see how Ward fares in his rookie campaign.
