The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, led by quarterback Baker Mayfield, have one of the most potent offenses in the NFL when they’re fully healthy. Unfortunately, the Bucs were derailed by injuries on that side of the ball late in the season last year.
Interestingly, the quarterback the Bucs are relying on to back up Mayfield isn’t exactly happy to be in Tampa with the team, so things may get dicey should Baker go down.
“It’s very upsetting,” Teddy Bridgewater said of being back in the NFL, according to Pro Football Talk. “Just knowing that you have good intentions and those good intentions will be turned against you and used against you.”
Bridgewater signed with the Buccaneers after being suspended from Miami Northwestern High School for trying to help his kids, which was labeled as him providing “improper benefits.”
“I’m hoping to get it resolved because those kids have a special place in my heart,” Bridgewater said. “And I’d love to finish what I started with them.”
Bridgewater was a volunteer coach, meaning he worked for free, but he said he’d still rather be with the kids.
“I can make a ton of money playing football,” Bridgewater said. “Coaching high school ball, I get nothing. But it’s not even about the money. It’s about giving those kids a building block to go out into the real world and be productive.”
Hopefully, he’ll be able to return to his preferred sideline soon.
