The matchup for Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas is officially set as the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers each won their respective conference title games to clinch a spot in the NFL’s championship game. And as soon as the matchup was official, so were the betting lines.
When the dust settled on the two conference championship games on Sunday night, sportsbooks released their opening lines for the upcoming Super Bowl matchup, and it looks like the San Francisco 49ers will be a narrow favorite over the Kansas City Chiefs.
On the FanDuel sportsbook, the Niners opened as 2.5-point favorites in the Super Bowl with the game total set at. Meanwhile, on DraftKings, the 49ers opened as 2-point favorites in the game. On both sportsbooks, the game total opened at 47.5 points.
Obviously, the line will likely move quickly and often as the game figures to be the most heavily bet sporting event of the entire year.
As far as history goes, the Niners are 0-3 in their three matchups against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, losing 38-27 in 2018, 31-20 in the Super Bowl following the 2019 season, and 44-23 during their matchup last year.
We’ll have to see whether or not the Niners can break that streak.
