The Pittsburgh Steelers added four-time NFL MVP-winning quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason, in what Rodgers is expecting to be his last season of football before he retires. Rodgers and the Steelers fully believe that a Super Bowl run is possible this season, as evidenced by their aggressive approach this offseason toward building a ready-to-compete roster, such as the trade to land star wide receiver DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks.
Offense isn’t the only reason Pittsburgh is excited, either. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin believes this Steelers team can field one of the greatest defenses the league has ever seen.
“We feel really good about the prospects of this group. We do,” he said. “We’ve got to write that story. We’ve got enough talent, we’ve got enough schematics to do big, big things. When I say big things, I’m talking about historic things.”
As much excitement as Rodgers has injected into the franchise, injuries are still a part of the sport. Rodgers’ newest mentee, rookie quarterback Will Howard, suffered an injury that brought about a premature end to his training camp and preseason.
Now, the young quarterback is getting honest about the experience.
“I wish I could be out there playing, but the fact of the matter is, it happened, I’ve got to continue to stay locked in and make sure l’m still on my stuff and locked in during meetings and practice and still getting all the mental reps. Because this time still is important to me,” Howard said, according to Steelers Depot.
Fas reacted to Howard on social media.
“Bad luck with that energy :/ Hopefully he gets reps in practice throughout the season,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“He’ll be lucky if they trade him and he gets away from Tomlin. The Steelers are going to screw him next year anyway,” someone else added.
“Really hope he has a shot to play the last preseason game,” another fan added.
Hopefully, Howard is still able to learn things from observing Rodgers as he works on getting healthy.
