Last season, Geno Smith not only earned the starting quarterback job for the Seattle Seahawks, but he had a spectacular season, earning the NFL Comeback Player of the Year honor as well as his first-ever Pro Bowl nomination. And even though it sounds like he’ll be back with the team next year, it sounds like that won’t stop the Seahawks from making other plans for the position.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll revealed that the Seahawks would consider using a high pick in the upcoming NFL Draft on a quarterback and bringing Geno Smith back as the team’s starting quarterback.
“Pete Carroll said he absolutely could envision bringing Geno Smith back AND using a high pick on another QB. Said Seahawks are ‘deeply’ involved in the 2023 draft Qb prospects,” NFL reporter Eric Edholm said in a tweet on Tuesday.
It’s a pretty big move and a major announcement for the Seahawks at the game’s most important position, and the NFL world had plenty to say about it on Twitter as a result.
This is what's going to happen, folks.
Pete's 71 and only has three years left on his contract. Extending Geno keeps them competitive through the remainder of his tenure in Seattle, while Schneider gets to draft a QB for the post-Pete years. https://t.co/5mMnRV0NJE

That is because the Seahawks are smart and not letting 1 career-best season of Geno move them away from getting their QB of the future! https://t.co/eM8khFHDtK

Anthony Richardson could cook in that offense with DK & Walker if he realizes his ceiling. https://t.co/9FZM2ffHvD

It will certainly be interesting to see how this plan shakes out in Seattle if the Seahawks do indeed use a high first-round pick on a quarterback.
