Sean McVay’s theme for the season is growth. The team’s 9-7 record is a stark different from the last when the Ram’s head coach had just five games in the win column.
It wasn’t just the numbers that made it a tough one, but how much he was burnt out. It’s a completely different storyline now as he made the decision to return once again.
“That I can promise you,” McVay told the host of The Coach McVay Show, J.B. Long, on his plans for next season.
To go from a dark place mentally to being the glue that holds the team together is something to be proud of. Following the New Year’s Eve win against the New York Giants keeps the team alive and in playoff hopes.
He knows improvements need to be made if they plan on having any traction in the postseason. Special teams need to sharpen up and the defensive aspect could use some work, but McVay knows that. He also has the upmost trust in his players.
“I think I’m always going to work hard and be a competitor, but where I think I can really help is what type of influence are you having that can help guys have genuine and authentic confidence when they go play the games,” McVay said, via the Los Angeles Times. You want to put the schemes together and [stuff] like that, but it’s about the players. I think that when I’m in the right place, one of the things I can help is create an authentic vibe and energy where they feel like they got the best opportunity to go play well and do it with an enjoyment where they’re not afraid to fail.”
