The New Orleans Saints announced Tuesday that they have signed running back Latavius Murray to their practice squad to help out with their depth chart while Alvin Kamara deals with a rib injury.

The 32-year-old played in 33 total games for the Saints in 2019 and 2020 and created a solid duo with Kamara. He averaged 4.4 yards per attempt and 41.7 yards per game while with New Orleans. In 31 regular season games, he garnered 1,704 yards and 11 touchdowns. However, the team cut him before the 2021 season and he spent last year with the Baltimore Ravens as part of a running back platoon.

Murray still has some people ahead of him on the depth chart before he can rejoin the active roster. Kamara, Mark Ingram II, Tony Jones Jr., and Dwayne Washington are all ahead of him for now.

Murray appeared in 14 games for the Ravens last season, garnering 501 yards on 119 attempts with six touchdowns. In his eight-year NFL career, which includes stints with the Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings, he’s amassed 5,492 yards and 51 total touchdowns.

We’ll see if Latavius has a chance to rejoin the Saints’ active roster and get back on the field. But for now, Saints fans seem happy to have a familiar face back in the fold.
