Reaching the highest level of any job requires incredible commitment and dedication. And that’s no different for the job of general manager in the NFL. Just ask Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles.
During a recent interview with ESPN, Ryan Poles revealed that he went to the extreme in his commitment to his job as the Chicago Bears general manager, revealing months after he was hired by the team last year, he began sleeping at the team facilities so that he would not miss even a second of the team’s preparation for the 2022 NFL Draft.
It’s quite a bold and surprising move from Poles, but he now admits that it might have been just a little bit extreme.
“That was not healthy doing that last year,” Poles said according to ESPN. “I don’t ever want to go through that again. But it was necessary to get the job done, so a little bit different approach.”
It seems to have worked out for Poles as he made several moves and transactions during the 2022 NFL Draft process that helped him build the roster he wanted to build in Chicago. But perhaps he just needs to get a little better at doing that while sleeping in the comfort of his own bed.
