This has not been the NFL season Russell Wilson likely envisioned when he was traded to the Denver Broncos last March. Wilson signed a giant five-year, $245 million extension in September (with $165 million guaranteed), but he and the team have both struggled all season.

Heading into Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Wilson had thrown for 3,019 yards with 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 13 games. Meanwwhile, the Broncos had gone 3-10 and fired head coach Nathaniel Hackett last Monday. But Wilson did throw a touchdown in the third quarter Sunday, finding Albert Okwuegbunam for a 25-yard TD:

And this touchdown, the 13th of the year for Wilson (seen above warming up ahead of Sunday’s game), is important for one particular reason. It means that his touchdown totals this season have now passed the 12 bathrooms in his house. This is a crucial stat the NFL world has been tracking for some time:

And this drew much more comment Sunday now that he passed that mark:

The 12 bathrooms is just one remarkable stat about the house Wilson and his wife Ciara bought for $25 million in the Cherry Hills Village neighborhood south of Denver in April (setting an area record for the highest purchase price of a home). Here’s more on that from Kate Tracy of The Denver Business Journal:

The five-acre property has lots of goodies: four bedrooms, 12 bathrooms and a 2,590-square-foot pool house with an indoor pool.

Rochelle McNaughton with LIV Sotheby’s International Realty was the listing broker for the sale.

“I think [the sellers] put over $20 million into the property, so to get somebody to pay what it was worth was an incredible opportunity for both the buyer and seller,” McNaughton said.

…The home went through major renovations, with its previous owners taking it down to the studs for a complete, 100% custom rebuild. Designer Jeffrey Alan Marks contributed to the home’s interior look. McNaughton described the home’s remodel as “mountain contemporary” with its stone exterior.

“They did not spare any expenses,” she said, including spending $1 million on windows alone.

So Wilson tied his house’s bedrooms in touchdown passes in Week 4, and passed it in Week 6. And he surpassed the pool house’s square footage in passing yardage in Week 13. But it took him until Week 17 to have more touchdown passes than his house’s number of bathrooms, and he wasn’t able to accomplish that at all in the 2022 calendar year. A new year comes with some new opportunity for Wilson, though, including finally passing for more touchdowns than the number of bathrooms in his house.
