After sitting out the 2021 season, Robert Griffin III may be eyeing an NFL return. He also has some potential teams in mind.
Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show on Tuesday, Griffin said that, after running a 40-yard dash in 4.48 seconds, he has had a “plethora of teams” reach out to him. But there are three specific situations that he has in mind.
When you run a 4.48 40-yard dash, even if for charity and #RunRichRun, people take notice — @RGIII talked with us about it and how he's gotten phone calls from #NFL execs about a possible return and where he'd like to go:#DallasCowboys#DirtyBirds #GoBears pic.twitter.com/kpsdiRAZMc

“Going back home to Texas with the Dallas Cowboys. I know a lot of Washington fans don’t want to hear that but that would be a great situation for me. The Atlanta Falcons, being there with Mariota and Ridder would be a great situation for me. And going to Chicago with Justin Fields to try to help as much as I possibly can in that quarterback room would also be a great situation.”
The possibility of Griffin ending up on the Chicago Bears drew by far the most interest from NFL fans.
I dunno how serious he is, but this would be cool. He definitely has the experience in a similar offense. https://t.co/Ugdq8Vwl5C

Please do! He’d be an extra coach and could play in a pinch https://t.co/jX2AnS4AH0

Griffin last played for the Baltimore Ravens from 2018-2020. He played sparingly, getting into only 14 games over those three seasons and starting only twice. Griffin was out of the league in 2021 but has been down that road before. He was out of the league in 2017 before signing with the Ravens after that season.
Injuries certainly derailed Griffin’s career. He started 15 games as a rookie in 2012 and 13 the following year. Since then, Griffin has started a combined 14 games.
But Griffin’s interest here seems to be more like a veteran mentor to younger quarterbacks. To that end, he would be brought in more as a backup who wouldn’t likely play a lot. If a team thinks he can be a positive influence in helping the development of a young quarterback, there are certainly worse options out there.
