Arrest warrants are “imminent” for four men, including Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy, who are accused of assaulting four off-duty police officers in Philadelphia over the weekend.
The men with McCoy that night were former NFL running back Curtis Brinkley, former University of Pittsburgh wide receiver Tamarcus Porter, and Christopher Henderson.
The alleged assault apparently happened after a dispute over champagne at a nightclub just prior to 3 a.m. Sunday. The assault is said to have happened after the three officers purchased four bottles of champagne, at which point Porter tried to claim one of the bottles for himself.
Two of the three officers were left seriously injured resulting from the assault. One needed eight stitches over his eye and potentially endured a skull fracture, and the other as treated for a broken nose, broken rib, eye laceration, and sprained thumb. There is no word on whether any of the four assailants were hurt.
In the event the warrants are issued, police expect McCoy to turn himself in.
Both Brinkley and Porter have had run-ins with law enforcement before. While Porter was at Pittsburgh with McCoy, he was kicked off the football team for two drunk driving offenses in less than a year. Brinkley was previously the victim of a case of mistaken identity; he was shot and wounded by his sister’s boyfriend in his apartment in 2009.
