The New York Jets have turned their attention to Aaron Rodgers, as the team reportedly had conversations with the Green Bay Packers on Monday. The 39-year-old Rodgers still hasn’t made a decision on his playing future, but if he decides to return next season, it could be with a new team.
While the Jets seem like Rodgers’ most likely suitor in the event that a trade does happen, not everyone is on board with the future Hall-of-Famer ending up in The Big Apple.
Plaxico Burress, who is more known for his time with the New York Giants, spent the 2011 season with the Jets. In Burreess’s first season back in the league after an accidental shooting led to a two-year prison sentence, he hauled in 45 receptions with 612 receiving yards and eight touchdowns receptions.
Burress sounded off on Rodgers potentially joining the Jets during an appearance on “The Carton Show” with radio and TV personality Craig Carton.
“I don’t really know Aaron personally, but I know he’s a hell of a quarterback and he can put the football anywhere you want a as wide receiver,” Burress said Tuesday. “He just loves to be talked about. He’s an attention junkie. He loves that we’re sitting here talking about him. Every day, it’s the Aaron Rodgers saga.
“Everybody’s just hoping he gets to the Jets to be reunited with Nathaniel Hackett because that was his offensive coordinator when he was MVP of the league. I’ve been saying, man, for him to come to the Jets, it just doesn’t make sense if he wants to get back to the playoffs and contend for a championship, the Jets are not the team to get him there.”
Only time will tell if the Jets follow Burress’ advice.
