The upcoming 2023 NFL Draft features some very intriguing quarterback prospects at the top of the draft board. And for many, the top of that list of prospects belongs to Alabama quarterback Bryce Young.
Young is coming off a season at Alabama where he threw for 3,228 yards along with 32 touchdowns and five interceptions. While these stats are impressive, he does have some critics regarding his small stature at the quarterback position. He stood at just 5-foot-10 1/8 at the recent NFL Combine.
While some may see this as a potential red flag as we approach the NFL Draft, both Eli and Peyton Manning don’t believe that this will be a concern for him at the next level.
They discussed his size during a special ESPN show airing Monday night. In a preview for the airing of the show, both Eli and Peyton downplay these concerns.
“He has been playing at this height for a while now,” said Peyton Manning while breaking down Young’s film. “I mean you figure it out. Drew Breese figured it out as good as anybody. He knows how to do it.
Eli also agreed with these sentiments, saying that he has played at a high level throughout his college career.
“This is shotgun,” said Eli Manning. “Now you are already seven yards deep. You can find the windows and find the lanes. He has obviously done that at an extremely high level his whole career. So I’m not worried about the height at all.
Peyton also added that Young’s scrambling ability helps him greatly overcome what he may lack in size as a quarterback.
Both Peyton and Eli have been around the game for a long time, so their vote of confidence in Bryce Young is certainly significant.
Fortunately for Young, it doesn’t seem like the Carolina Panthers buy into these concerns either. Reports emerged on Monday that Young “may be inching closer to Carolina” with the No. 1 pick in the draft.
