The New England Patriots shocked the NFL world by cutting back up quarterback Bailey Zappe on Tuesday according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
Zappe started a few games for the Patriots last season when starting quarterback Mac Jones was injured. Zappe became a fan-favorite of Patriot fans but, for now, he is no longer with the team.
The Patriots also cut third-string quarterback Malik Cunningham, so for now, the team is down to one quarterback, which should change soon. In all likelihood, one or both of the quarterbacks will be re-signed by the team in the future.
The team also may have cut Zappe in a show of support for Jones, who was on shaky ground last year with head coach Bill Belichick but that seems to have come to an end as Belichick and the organization seem to be fully behind Jones.
Despite that, however. some fans are wondering if the Patriots made a mistake by cutting Zappe and keeping Mac Jones.

Other fans think that the Pats were right in choosing Jones, who was the organization’s first-round draft choice in 2020.
No matter what happens, moving forward, the team has made it clear where their future lies, and it’s not with Bailey Zappe.
