The Pittsburgh Steelers selected former Penn State Nittany Lions star cornerback Joey Porter Jr. in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft earlier this year, and just a few weeks into practices, it sounds like he is already impressing veteran cornerback Patrick Peterson.

During a press conference this week, Patrick Peterson revealed that he has taken the rookie corner under his wing and said that he is willing to do “whatever I can do to help him accelerate the game as fast as I can.” He also offered some pretty bold praise for Joey Porter Jr., indicating that he thinks there’s a chance he could be even better than him.

“I just want to continue helping in as many ways as I can because he has all the intangibles to be better than me,” Peterson said according to Pro Football Talk. “I know most greats, or most guys, won’t say that, but that’s just the type of guy I am. I want to pass on the game and leave it in good hands.”

Peterson has obviously been one of the most dominant cornerbacks in the NFL over the past decade, earning three All-Pro nominations with eight Pro Bowl appearances. If Porter can surpass that, it will certainly put him in rare company.
