The speculation over whether or not the Green Bay Packers will trade Aaron Rodgers has been rampant in recent days.
Now we have a sense of what they’ll be asking for in return for the former MVP quarterback.
NFL analyst and former executive Michael Lombardi appeared on The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday and he was asked what he’s heard about the requested compensation for Rodgers. He said that Rodgers could be traded for with a combination of draft picks, one of which has to be a first-rounder.
“The Packers are looking for a (1st round pick) and then something else if he plays longer. What that means is ‘we want your one, but if he plays two years, we want a three or a two – an additional pick to go with what we have.’ Now maybe they’ll take a two and a conditional pick for something else. But I have a hard time believing that Woody (Johnson, the Jets owner) would go up that airplane and fly 2,500 miles if he didn’t think the kid was gonna play…” Lombardi said.
That’s pretty much in line with what a lot of people thought would be the case. It sounds like the New York Jets will certainly be the frontrunner to land Rodgers and it seems likely that they would be willing to part with a package of picks to land the generational quarterback.
