The Green Bay Packers are looking for franchise quarterback Jordan Love to take the next step and become a bona fide superstar in the league. To take that step, Love needs to clean up his turnovers, as the NFC North figures to be one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL this season after sending three teams to the playoffs last year.

However, Love may have more trouble than ever keeping the ball out of harm’s way this season, as the Packers’ general manager revealed on Tuesday that Love is dealing with a thumb problem that will require a procedure, per one prominent team insider.

“Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said QB Jordan Love is undergoing a procedure on his left thumb. It’s a ligament issue. That’s why he had it taped yesterday in practice. Said the hope is for Love to return to practice next week,” reported ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.

Demovsky then had more to share from Gutekunst.

“More Gutekunst: I don’t (see) this affecting him long term.’ This happened in the preseason opener on Saturday vs. the Jets.”

Fans reacted to news of the procedure on social media.

“Doesn’t really matter. The packers are arguably the worst team in the division,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Perfect, just in time for fans to start arguing if he’s the next franchise qb or the next reason they drink,” someone else added.

“Another year of horrible play followed by injury excuse,” another fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see if the thumb injury lingers and leads to fumbles over the season.
