Nick Saban sends clear message about Bryce Young

One of the top quarterback prospects in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft is Alabama standout Bryce Young. However, there are some concerns about some of his measurables. But longtime Alabama head coach Nick Saban sent a clear message to NFL teams on Thursday. He does not believe these measurables will be a problem for Young in the NFL.

Young stands at just 5-foot-10 and weighs just north of 200 pounds. This has typically not been a recipe for success in the NFL as a long-term starting quarterback.

Saban dismissed Young’s critics during Alabama’s pro day on Thursday, saying that his small stature has never hindered his productivity at the college level

“First of all, I don’t have any issues with his measurables,” said Saban in an interview tweeted by NFL Network’s Mike Garafalo. “Some people think it’s a durability issue, which he has never been hurt here other than when he hurt himself by putting his arm out. His 5-10 frame has never really had an impact on his productivity. I don’t have an issue with it. There has never been a more instinctive guy. He plays the quarterback position like a point guard.”

We have seen the likes of Russell Wilson and Drew Brees thrive at statures close to Bryce Young in the past. That being said, those are simply a few instances compared to the hundreds of good college quarterbacks that failed at the next level at his size.

Only time will tell how the NFL career of Bryce Young will pan out. Regardless, it will certainly be interesting to see where he ultimately lands in the NFL Draft come April.
