Move over, Taylor Swift. You’re not the only music superstar tied to an NFL team this season.
Rapper Eminem (aka Marshall Mathers) is a longtime Detroit Lions fan, but anyone who’s followed the sad history of that franchise knows he hasn’t had much to cheer about through the years.
That’s all changed this season, with the Lions facing the San Francisco 49ers Sunday in the NFC Championship. While the Lions are heavy underdogs, their fans are at a fever pitch about the possibility of the team’s first Super Bowl.
Eminem is right in the middle of the excitement. Fans at Ford Field sang along when the stadium played his hit “Lose Yourself” during the Lions-Los Angeles Rams Wild Card game.
Sunday, the rapper jokingly took credit after the Lions defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Some fans noted the team pulled away after the rapper appeared on Ford Field’s big screens.
Now we have the very real possibility of the ultimate Super Bowl super fan matchup, between Eminem’s Lions and Swift’s Kansas City Chiefs. (Obviously, the Lions must upset the 49ers, and the Chiefs have to beat the Baltimore Ravens, and unless Swift can suit up at wide receiver for KC, her being a super fan doesn’t help them.)
Fans can dream, though, right? Plenty checked in on X/Twitter to discuss the issue.
