Fans across the NFL were understandably outraged earlier this offseason when one of the league’s premier insiders reported that the Kansas City Chiefs were likely to receive a favorable conclusion to the pending suspension of one of their star wide receivers.
“ESPN sources: Chiefs WR Rashee Rice is expected to have his disciplinary hearing with the NFL on Tuesday, Sept 30 in New York. This means that Rice now is likely to be able to play the first four weeks of this season before any potential discipline is imposed for his role in a multi-car crash in Dallas during the 2024 offseason,” ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter reported.
Now, news has broken that indicates the league is coming down on the Chiefs hard after all.
“NFL is aiming for at least a potential six-game suspension for Chiefs WR Rashee Rice for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, sources tell ESPN. The suspension would kick in at the start of this season,” Schefter reported on Wednesday.
Now, we have Rice’s response.
“Can confirm that Rashee Rice has accepted a 6-game suspension that will start in Week 1, per source. Rice will be eligible to return Oct. 19 against the Raiders,” ESPN’s Nate Taylor reported on Twitter.
Fans reacted to the suspension on social media.
“Perfect. Get the suspension out of the way,” one Chiefs fan reported on Twitter.
“This is probably easier than taking the suspension midway through the season for both Rice and the Chiefs,” someone else added.
“There we have it. Glad they fully know and can prepare and plan accordingly now,” another Chiefs fan wrote.
It’ll be interesting to see how Kansas City fares without Rice’s services to start the season.
