The Kansas City Chiefs have been anticipating a suspension for their star wide receiver Rashee Rice for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. However, earlier this offseason, it seemed apparent that the suspension would be extremely favorable for Kansas City and its fans.
“ESPN sources: Chiefs WR Rashee Rice is expected to have his disciplinary hearing with the NFL on Tuesday, Sept 30 in New York. This means that Rice now is likely to be able to play the first four weeks of this season before any potential discipline is imposed for his role in a multi-car crash in Dallas during the 2024 offseason,” reported ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter.
Now, news has broken that indicates the league is coming down on the Chiefs hard after all.
“NFL is aiming for at least a potential six-game suspension for Chiefs WR Rashee Rice for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, sources tell ESPN. The suspension would kick in at the start of this season,” Schefter reported on Wednesday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“This would be the correct response. The shit is on video and there is literally witnesses and he was charged, pled guilty and sentenced to JAIL and probation and ordered to pay restitution for hurting people. Why is this taking so long?” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“So the league’s ‘personal conduct policy’ hands out 6 games for Rashee Rice… but owners can move billions, dodge accountability, and keep their seats warm every Sunday? Same rulebook, or just different jerseys?” someone else wrote.
“Better at the beginning than in the middle tbh. 6 games was expected, they wanted 10 initially,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how Rice’s camp responds to the NFL’s plans.
