Monday morning. Jacksonville Jaguars coach Urban Meyer apologized over photos and a video that went viral over the weekend showing him at a bar cavorting with a young woman who was decidedly not his wife.

In his apology, Meyer explained that he was out having dinner with his family but was distracted by some people nearby who wanted to take pictures with him.

“I stayed to see the grandkids and we all went to dinner that night at the restaurant,” said Meyer. “There was a big group next to our restaurant. They wanted me to come over and take pictures and I did. They’re trying to pull me out on the dance floor, screwing around, and I should have left.”

The apology doesn’t quite make sense as he says it, considering his wife Shelley tweeted from home with photos of her and the grandkids, including the hashtag #BuddyDeservedANightOut, which implies Meyer’s plan was to go out on his own that evening.

The apology also seems to create a scenario that conflicts with the video and photos of Meyer sitting at the bar with different people.

A new video emerged on Monday that shows Meyer and the young woman from a different angle. Meyer is clearly doing something with his hand that implies he was much more of an active participant in the evening’s activities rather than the unsuspecting photo op victim that he implies in the apology.

Something tells us that this story isn’t going away just yet and there might be more details to emerge, especially now that Meyer is trying to craft a specific notion of why he was at the bar and what he was doing that evening. In the meantime, Meyer isn’t winning over very many people in the NFL media, and the Jaguars’ 0-4 start isn’t doing much to endear him to fans either.
