The New Orleans Saints are still looking to get things figured out following the surprise retirement of quarterback Derek Carr due toa  lingering injury. The Saints are hopeful to keep their key players healthy this season, lest they find themselves dealing with more surprise retirements.

Unfortunately, on Wednesday, news broke of another injury to a key piece of the Saints’ offense.

Sources: #Saints TE Juwan Johnson left practice today with a groin injury, but my understanding is it’s not considered serious. He’s expected to miss a few days at most. Johnson signed a 3-year, $30.75M deal this offseason and is poised to be a big part of Kellen Moore’s offense,” reported Jordan Schultz.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“He’s really talented but it hasn’t translated to the field yet,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Another big sleeper at the tight end position for fantasy. Kellen Moore has had success working with tight ends in his offensive system, and the Saints aren’t exactly loaded at WR. With a rookie quarterback under center in Tyler Shough, I’d take the chance on JJ this year late,” a fantasy football fan added.

“Johnson was having a tremendous camp. With Foster Moreau and Taysom Hill sidelined, Johnson is one of the most indispensable players on the roster,” wrote someone else.

It’ll be interesting to see if Johnson and the Saints manage to be competitive this season without Carr’s services.
