The New England Patriots have not had a lot of consistency at the quarterback position this season as the team has benched starting quarterback Mac Jones during several games this season. While the team hasn’t announced any plans for the quarterback position for this week’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers, they did make a significant move in that regard this week.
On Tuesday, the New England Patriots signed former West Virginia Mountaineers star quarterback Will Grier to their practice squad. The Patriots had previously released Grier from their active roster on Saturday and he was expected to explore his options, but he’s now back with the Patriots.
While Grier has not played yet this season after the team signed him off of the Bengals practice squad back in September, the move is pretty significant after both Mac Jones and backup Bailey Zappe have struggled this season, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media.
New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said multiple times last week that he’s told all of the team’s quarterbacks to be ready to play for the team. Grier obviously did not play last week, but with the recent struggles of Jones and Zappe, there’s a chance he could see his first action this week.
