Known primarily for streaming television shows and movies, Netflix has gotten increasingly involved in live sports. In 2024 the media conglomerate aired a live stream of a boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, as well as both of the Christmas Day NFL games.

The Christmas Day games were a massive success for Netflix, and now it appears they want a larger slice of the pie.

Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria wants to bid on a package that would give the company the right to broadcast games on Sunday afternoons during the regular season, according to Puck’s Matt Beloni.

As of now FOX and CBS have exclusive rights to games on Sunday afternoon, with NBC hosting the weekly Sunday Night game in the primetime window. There are eight years left on the current broadcast deal, per The Spun.

Netflix isn’t the only stream the NFL has gotten involved with in recent years.

Thursday night football games now air on Amazon Prime Video and the streamer even got the rights to a playoff game this season.

The NFL’s first-ever game in Brazi between the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles was broadcast in September on Peacock.

It’ll be interesting to see how the league continues to evolve with the ever-shifting media landscape.
