The Los Angeles Chargers were narrowly able to avoid beginning the season with a 0-3 record this weekend, beating the Minnesota Vikings. But that win might have come at a cost because there’s a chance that star wide receiver Mike Williams is now out for the season with a season-ending knee injury.
According to a report from league insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Mike Williams is feared to have suffered a serious knee injury that will keep him out of the remainder of the 2023 NFL season.
“He’s going to have an MRI today, but the fear is that Mike Williams did suffer a significant, potentially season-ending knee injury,” Rapoport said on the NFL Network on Monday morning. “No one will confirm until after the MRI but certainly there is real fear here that he could be lost for the season.”
“They drafted Quentin Johnson, perhaps he can step into that role,” Rapoport said.
Obviously, this would be horrible news for the Los Angeles Chargers, and the NFL world had plenty to say about the possibility as a result.
Chargers fans will undoubtedly be hoping that the news is not as bad as feared, but it sounds like the team is preparing for the worst.
