Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill suffered an ankle injury in the team’s 24-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6. Following the Titans’ Bye week, Tannehill’s chances of playing in Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons don’t look great. Tannehill didn’t practice on Tuesday.
So, if Tannehill isn’t at quarterback for the Titans in Week 8, who will be?
According to Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, the plan will be for Tennessee to play *two* quarterbacks: Malik Willis and Will Levis.
Speaking to the Tennessee media on Tuesday, Vrabel said, “If Ryan can’t play, I would anticipate both of those quarterbacks playing in the football game.”
Willis, a third-round selection by the Titans in the 2022 NFL Draft, has looked rough in his limited playing time. He’s put together a 49.4 passer rating with zero touchdowns and three interceptions over 66 NFL passes thrown.
Levis fell to the Titans in the second round (33rd overall pick) of the 2023 draft after many evaluators thought he’d be a top-five pick. The University of Kentucky product is loaded with physical tools, but he’s been viewed as very raw and a developmental project.
Will one quarterback get many more snaps than the other? Will one simply be used as a running quarterback (Willis and Levis each offer skills there)?
Or is Vrabel just trying to get the Falcons to prepare for both quarterbacks, while only intending to play one of them?
It will be interesting to see how this unfolds on Sunday. Tennessee could badly use a win to avoid falling to 2-5.
