Mike Tannenbaum would know a thing or two about courting a Packers quarterback, looking to potentially extend a successful playing career beyond Green Bay.

As the Jets find themselves in an eerily similar situation as nearly 14 years ago, Some of New York’s brass, including chairman Woody Johnson, head coach Robert Saleh, general manager Joe Douglas and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, flew to California on Tuesday to meet with Aaron Rodgers.

Tannebaum flew to Mississippi to convince Brett Favre to come out of retirement. He used some unusual tactics to draw Favre to the Jets, promising the Hall-of-Fame quarterback that he’d be able to do some of his favorite outdoor activities, like hunting and fishing in New Jersey.

Now, it’s unclear if the Jets are making some of those same promises to Rodgers 14 years later. But, Tannebaum did offer a recruiting pitch of his own for Rodgers after successfully making for Favre during an appearance on ESPN’s “Get Up” on Wednesday morning.

“What I would be talking to Aaron Rodgers about is very simple: legacy, legacy, legacy,” Tannenbaum said. “You could be a pantheon of an all-time great in New York, which is unlike any place ever. I’m talking about guys like Eli Manning and Lawrence Taylor and Phil Simms and Bill Parcells and Joe Namath, amongst many, many others. ‘You win in New York, Aaron, there’s nothing like it for your legacy.'”

We’ll have to see if the Jets’ pitch resonates with Rodgers, who is expected to make a decision sooner rather than later on his playing career.
