The Miami Dolphins shocked the NFL world on Wednesday when they finalized a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs to get star receiver Tyreek Hill.
Negotiations on an extension between Hill and the Chiefs had stalled, which led to the team giving Hill permission to seek a trade. The candidates to get Hill were seemingly the Dolphins and the New York Jets. But with Hill (seen above with the Chiefs during this year’s AFC championship game) being from the Miami area, he said it was an easy choice between the two.
The addition of Hill will bring the Dolphins an extremely exciting wide receiver tandem of Hill and rookie receiver Jaylen Waddle, who had an impressive first season in 2021, finishing the year with 104 receptions for 1,015 yards and 7 total touchdowns.
One of the biggest winners of the Hill trade to Miami will likely be quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who should see a huge increase in production with Hill’s addition.
The former top 5 pick in the 2020 NFL draft has yet to break out during his short career with the Dolphins, but Hill has already given some high praise to the former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback.
“Tua is one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the NFL, man. His ball placement, getting us the ball in space and us utilizing our speed. That’s dangerous,” said Hill on Thursday.
It will certainly be an interesting change for Hill going from Patrick Mahomes throwing him passes every Sunday to Tagovailoa for the foreseeable future.
It should certainly do wonders for Tua’s development as a quarterback to have a receiver with the speed that Hill does going forward, along with Waddle, who actually has some resemblance to Hill as a player.
Dolphins wide receiver coach and former New England Patriots star receiver Wes Welker described Waddle’s play-style to be “Tyreek Hill-ish” with the ball in his hands this offseason before the trade, so it will certainly be fun to watch the tandem play together for years to come.
